Marketing rescue for Prince Edward Island contractors

On PEI, everyone knows everyone, so a contractor's listing and reviews carry unusual weight. Several efficiencyPEI rebates ended in 2026, which makes outdated program pages a common rescue fix.

Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest province, and in a market this size reputation is everything. A contractor's Google listing, reviews and phone number are often how a neighbour's recommendation turns into a call. When those are out of the owner's control, or the website still promotes rebates that ended, people notice. A PEI rescue is usually smaller than one in a big city, but it matters just as much.

The PEI market and typical rescue cases

Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall form the central market, with Summerside in the west and Three Rivers in the east. Most contractors serve much of the island from one base.

Typical cases include a business whose listing was created by a former partner, a website on a builder the owner can't log in to, and duplicate listings left behind after a move between communities. With one strong listing often carrying the whole business, recovering it comes first.

Seasons and when to schedule a rescue

Island winters bring real cold and plenty of snow, though the surrounding Gulf takes a little of the edge off. Statistics Canada data show heat pumps as the primary heating system in more than a third of homes, and oil remains common, so heating and electrical trades are busy through the cold months.

Finish recovery by early autumn if heating or electrical work is your core. Exterior trades, which crowd into a short summer season, are best rescued over winter.

Program pages: what ended, as of October 2026

PEI's heat pump support changed sharply in 2026, which leaves many local contractor sites out of date.

  • The efficiencyPEI residential heat pump equipment rebates ended on 2026-04-15, according to the province's funding page. Purchases made in the year before that date may still qualify within a year of purchase.
  • The efficiencyPEI free heat pump program for income-qualified and oil-heated households shows as closed.
  • A federal affordability agreement announced on 2026-06-29 expands free insulation for income-qualified homeowners; intake details weren't confirmed as of October 2026.

In a website repair, we remove invitations to programs that have ended, describe open ones with a link and a date, and suggest customers confirm with efficiencyPEI.

A Charlottetown scenario

Suppose a [trade] business in Stratford still has a homepage banner saying "Ask us about efficiencyPEI rebates". The equipment rebates ended in April 2026. Every caller who mentions it needs an awkward explanation. Updating the banner, the service pages and the listing description takes less than a day, and it means the first conversation starts on the right foot.

Duplicate listings on a small island

Moves between Charlottetown, Cornwall and Stratford often leave a second, older listing behind. On PEI, where customers search by business name more than by trade, a duplicate with an old number does real damage. We resolve duplicates through Google's own tools during recovery.

How we'd approach a PEI rescue

  1. Audit every listing and page, including duplicates from past moves. See the rescue audit.
  2. Recover the listing and domain through official routes. See Google Business Profile recovery.
  3. Repair program pages and licence references, and make sure the phone number is right everywhere.
  4. Restart with a steady review routine and modest, well-aimed ads. On PEI, more spend is rarely the answer.

Frequently asked questions

My site still promotes efficiencyPEI heat pump rebates. Is that a problem?

Probably. The residential heat pump equipment rebates ended on 2026-04-15, and the free heat pump program shows as closed. Pages inviting new applications should be updated or removed.

Do I really need a marketing rescue in such a small market?

In a small market, the stakes per customer are higher. If your listing shows an old number or someone else controls your reviews, people notice quickly. The fix is usually smaller and faster than in a big city.

Should my website show my licence?

For licensed trades, showing your licence accurately builds trust. PEI licenses plumbing contractors and mechanical contractors, among others. Confirm the details with the province.
